CMA CELEBRATES COUNTRY MUSIC MONTH IN OCTOBER ...

NASHVILLE ? The Country Music industry and CMA are celebrating Country Music Month with events and activities designed to heighten awareness of the format all leading up to ?The 46^th Annual CMA Awards,? known as ?Country Music?s Biggest Night?,? on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean issued a proclamation from the city citing the important role and meaningful impact of the Country Music industry on Nashville?s economy and reputation as a center for the entertainment business and global tourism.

Dean addressed the CMA Board of Directors today and said of the proclamation, ?It was created to acknowledge in the city of Nashville, the importance of Country Music, what it means to our city, what it means to our country, what it means to us as a city in terms of our economy, our reputation as a center for business and tourism.?

Country Music Month was also recognized by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam who cited the origins of the music in the hills of Tennessee; the recurring themes reflected in everyday life; the global popularity of the music; and CMA?s role in broadening awareness of the format through the CMA Awards, CMA Music Festival, CMA Country Christmas, CMA Songwriter Series, as well as CMA?s college initiative CMA EDU, and CMA?s music education campaign, Keep the Music Playing.

Haslam stated in the proclamation: ?I Bill Haslam, Governor of the State of Tennessee, do hereby proclaim October 2012 as Country Music Month in Tennessee and encourage all citizens to join me in this worthy observance.?

First observed in October of 1964, Country Music Month was created by the Country Music Association to celebrate the format and bring additional awareness to landmark events and institutions in the history of Country Music, including the formation of CMA and the anniversary of WSM-AM?s Grand Ole Opry. What followed was a groundswell of support from dozens of states, which issued proclamations in support of the idea, and eventually the White House with several Presidential Proclamations beginning in 1970.

?CMA?s mission is to advance Country Music around the world,? said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. ?And Country Music Month is another tool for reaching consumers who embrace our artists and the format culminating with the live broadcast of the CMA Awards.?

CMA events and industry activities planned for the month include:

• Return of the CMA SRO Awards, honoring members of the touring industry, on Oct. 9
• CMA Songwriter Series events in Chicago (Oct. 24), New York (Oct. 25), and Nashville (Oct. 31)
• Private reception for the 2012 CMA Awards nominees
• CMA Channel for Country Music Month on iHeartRadio
• The 87^th birthday celebration of the Grand Ole Opry
• Awards banquets for Nashville performing rights organizations
• CMA giveaways and more featured on CountryMusicMonth.com!

Founded in 1958, the Country Music Association was the first trade organization formed to promote a type of music. In 1961, CMA created the Country Music Hall of Fame to recognize artists and industry professionals with Country Music?s highest honor. More than 11,000 music industry professionals and companies from around the globe are members of CMA. The organization?s objectives are to serve as an educational and professional resource for the industry and advance the growth of Country Music around the world. This is accomplished through CMA?s core initiatives ? the CMA Awards, which annually recognize outstanding achievement in the industry and air Thursday, Nov. 1 on the ABC Television Network; the CMA Music Festival, which benefits music education and is also taped for a three-hour special on ABC; and ?CMA Country Christmas,? which is taped Saturday, Nov. 3 featuring Country artists performing original music and Christmas classics for broadcast during the holiday season.
