Revolution Laboratories Releases a Protein ... - Body Health & Fitness

Solana Beach, California (PRWEB) September 27, 2012

As if Revolution Laboratories, LLC was not already selling their most popular protein supplement for cheap enough, RevLabs decided to double the size of the ProRev bottle! Additionally, since their customers have been so dedicated and supportive, Cheif Opperating Officer Joshua Nussbaum has decided to give customers 10% for entering the promotional code ?Jeesh?.

The increase in size and the discounted price does not mean Revolution Laboratories is skimping on the top of the line ingredients. ProRev will still contain the same amazing supplement facts that health fanatics all over the world have learned to love. The supplement fact highlights include:

113 Calories (only 9 from fat)

24g of Blended Whey Protein

1g of Fat

2g of Carbs

1g of Sugar

With the same great taste as the old version of ProRev, this decision will no doubt contribute to Revolution Laboratories acquiring even more market share but will it be profitable? Only time will tell.

FREE IS MY LIFE: MOVIE REVIEW: Pitch Perfect

This move review for "Pitch Perfect" was written by guest blogger Liz Parker...

When I saw a tweet from actress Elizabeth Banks asking for extras in her film Pitch Perfect last November, I offhandedly mentioned it to a friend of mine who lives in Baton Rouge. My friend jumped at the chance to be an extra, which resulted in this post. It should come as no surprise, then, that I was very eager to see?Pitch Perfect more than a month before it was in theaters. Although I didn't see my friend in the movie, the film was definitely worth seeing, and is a mix of "Glee meets Mean Girls meets Bridesmaids," as someone tweeted.

Beca (Anna Kendrick, 50/50) arrives at Barden University as a freshman but doesn't want to be there - she would rather be in L.A. pursuing her dream to be a DJ. Her dad is a professor at Barden so he expects her to take advantage of a free college education there. Her roommate Kimmy Jin (Jinhee Joung) doesn't really like her, yet she accompanies her to the Activities Fair anyways to see what's being offered on campus. The Barden Bellas, an a capella group headed up by Chloe (Brittany Snow, Hairspray) and Aubrey (Anna Camp, The Help), are desperately recruiting singers due to an unfortunate mishap at the A Capella Finals last year, and they ask Beca if she can sing. She blows them off, but later Chloe corners her while Beca is singing in the shower, and asks her to try out for auditions.

Beca of course makes the Barden Bellas, who claim they have significantly "lowered" their image, so to speak, and what follows is her journey in a capella, where she meets Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson, Bridesmaids) and the adorable Jesse (Skylar Austin, Taking Woodstock), who is a member of The Treblemakers, an all-male a capella group at Barden that always wins in competition. Aubrey has made all of the Bellas take an oath to not get involved with any Treblemakers, and Beca starts to find this harder to observe as she gets cloesr to Jesse, who she also works with at the campus radio station.

Rebel Wilson of course steals the show in this film, but that's not surprising because she's awesome in pretty much every movie she's in (including the recent hit Bridesmaids). Anna Kendrick can sing very, very well, and she will wow you with her talents, especially since she's never been in any other singing/dancing films recently. The film was also spot-on when it came to "college life": when I was a student at U of M, there was "Festifall" each year where a capella groups and others would recruit new members, and the "Activity Fair" that Beca goes to reminded me of that.

Yes, see this film, though I will caution you that for some reason there are excessive amounts of vomiting. The film is definitely not perfect: I didn't feel like Beca's father was really needed, since his small role in the movie is mostly to nag her. The chemistry between Beca and Jesse was great, and Skylar Austin is now on my "watch list" for young actors. Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) also has a few cameo scenes in this film as well. Brittney Snow is best known for Hairspray and John Tucker Must Die, which I really liked, but hasn't been seen much since then, and she proves here that she's definitely still a great actress; her scenes with Anna Camp occurred often, since they are the leaders (and seniors) in the Bellas. If you like singing or watching singing groups even a little bit, you will love Pitch Perfect, and the film proves itself to be highly entertaining.

Pitch Perfect is currently playing in theaters, and is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 100 minutes. 4 stars out of 5.

*Author's Note: We were told that this was NOT the finished print of the film; some images and sound were not completely finished yet.

Archive ? Importance of Personal Finance Management

finance managementWhen a person reaches the age of majority, is on track to take full responsibility for managing their personal finances. Whereas parents have done their homework for the child until that age, are not responsible from that moment the errors in personal finance management of their child.

The art of managing personal finances can be taught through a structured learning or may be an innate quality in the mindset of the person. You must then define the strategies to ensure that every decision made in terms of personal finance management is backed by real experience and a desire to improve their financial prospects in the medium to long term.

What is amazing is that people fall into the same traps that his predecessors have fallen, as if there was nothing to learn throughout the process. It is also a unique feature of personal finance have the opportunity to improve past behavior. If there is a problem with personal finance management that occurs again in our life we must make sure that this time we will take the right decision, based on past experience. Not many things in life that can offer this type of opportunity.

The most basic principle that will determine success in the management of personal finances is the ability of people to control revenues and expenditures. These two variables should be approximately equal to stay in a neutral financial position. The idea is that income is greater than the expense and the person may start having some surplus that can be allocated to savings and you can invest at a later stage. Most people who fall into problems in the management of their Personal finances often spend more than they earn. To make matters worse they might decide to borrow money to cover shortfalls that have occurred in your personal budget. So poor an income stream combined with rising debt trap can reach the person completely.

Debt is one of the main problems for the management of personal finances, there are a multitude of financial companies that offer credit cards and various types of loans with really simple requirements, we know that these can charge very high interest rates and change the conditions thereof, causing it to lose control of debts.

Managing personal finances is one of those areas that need focus and discipline to reach the proposed goals and targets. The alternative is a debt burden is unsustainable. Two important attitudes for managing personal finances are spending responsibility and commitment to reach our financial goals.

Find Prominent Guidance About Commercial Real Estate

Are you ready to enter into the commercial property market? You probably have a lot of inquiries on where to start and what to do, but do not worry, this article will help you. The following tips will make it easier to find and purchase the right property for you.

TIP! If you are purchasing commercial real estate for rental purposes, look for structures that are uncomplicated and sturdily built. Because it is apparent that these types of structures have been kept in good condition, it greatly increases the chances that tenants will be quick to rent the space.

Before you jump into a commercial real estate deal, you want to get a lay of the land first. This means considering and examining the general income levels in the area, how high or low unemployment rates are, and looking at the hiring practices of employers within the vicinity of where you intend to invest. Commercial property near hospitals or schools have higher property values; these properties are also easier to sell.

Set up your own blog to establish yourself as an expert in your field. This assists in locating people to buy or lease your property.

TIP! There are a variety of types of real estate brokers who deal in commercial properties. Some agents will represent only the tenant while a full service broker will represent both parties.

If you are new to commercial real estate investing, you should learn how to manage one investment type at a time. Select one type of property that appeals to you, and devote your undivided attention to it. It isn?t good to be just okay at many investments when you can be excellent at one.

Try to decrease potential events of defaults before negotiating a lease. That will cut down on the likelihood that the tenant defaults on a lease. This is a bad thing, so do what you can to minimize the chance of it happening.

TIP! You need to do this so that all terms match the pro forma, and also the rent roll. If you fail to closely examine these terms, you may not notice that there are terms that were not thought about with regards to the rent roll, altering the pro forma.

You need to make sure that the price you are asking for your real estate is a realistic price. There are a lot of uncertainties which can have a huge impact on the price of your lot.

Financial Statements

TIP! You will probably have to put a lot of effort into your new investment at the beginning. First you have to hunt down a good deal, and then, after your purchase, you may be required to complete some repair work or remodeling.

If you are trying to get financing approved for your commercial investment, you will need financial statements showing the net income of our business. Without financial statements, a bank cannot verify your income and will not allow you to borrow money.

Before buying, make sure that you consult a tax adviser for assistance. This specialist can advise you on the building costs of any project you may be considering. He or she can also determine your taxable income. Consult your adviser for areas where taxes are lower.

TIP! Find out specifically how a real estate broker negotiates prior to choosing them. Ask about their training and experience.

When you are setting up your home office or commercial property for selling purposes, consider the Asian art of feng shui. This will create larger open spaces with less clutter and will give a more attractive flow for potential buyers.

Have family, friends, and professional lenders partner with you to make sure you have enough cash to buy commercial real estate. Ensure that the contracts that you enter into have several repayment options available to you, either fixed rate or income percentage.

TIP! Select your financing before you do anything else. Home loans are much different than commercial loans, so there is a lot of new information that you must learn before you begin your search for a piece of commercial property.

When searching for a commercial real estate broker, ask about their primary source of income. An honest broker, of course, will be open to discussing how their money was made. Be certain you know exactly what specific benefit they will draw from taking care of this transaction for you.

With a new lease, keep in mind that what you charge for rent will be important for the growth of your investment. Don?t talk to potential tenants until you have figured out your rental fee structure. Once you have set your desired benchmarks and targets, you will be sure to meet them if you stick to this strategy. Therefore, you will prove to have a profitable commercial real estate investment.

TIP! Focus on only one investment at the same time. Whether your investment choice is retail, land or rental buildings, choose one arena of investment to focus on exclusively for now.

It?s up to the borrower, that?s you, to order an appraisal for a commercial loan. The bank won?t let you use one not ordered by you. Make sure you have all your paperwork in order before you even apply for your loan.

A letter of intent should be kept simple by focusing on larger issues and leaving smaller issues to negotiate later. This lets you get the bigger issues out of the way first and makes small issues simpler to complete.

Commercial Real Estate

You are now more prepared, than ever, to buy commercial real estate. Look at you now! You are more ready than you have ever been! Hopefully, the tips that you read gave some clues that will help you get started with your commercial real estate adventures, so that you can be successful with

founderscardIn 2009, Eric Kuhn created FoundersCard as a way to give entrepreneurs the same kind of elite programs, perks and networking opportunities traditionally reserved for execs of Fortune 500 companies. By offering discounts on hotels, airfare and business services entrepreneurs and founders use every day -- and by throwing good parties -- its community of entrepreneurs and founders has grown to over 8,000 members. Of course, until now it's been unclear who one might expect to find at a FoundersCard party or using its card when checking into a hotel. Who actually uses this thing? We've learned from reliable sources that today FoundersCard members includes craigslist founder Craig Newmark, Digg founder Kevin Rose, along with founders of TechStars, TaskRabbit, Obvious, LivingSocial, Simple, Box, Buzzfeed and Thrillist -- to name a few.

Bicycle Tools You Need to Have | Content for Reprint

Author: Abu Fakhri | Total views: 119 Comments: 0
Word Count: 655 Date:

It is safe to assume that everyone with a bike should have a set of bicycle tools that they keep with them all times. This set of tools will be able to help you in solving problems related to your bike. If possible, you need to carry the tool with you everywhere and every time you ride your bicycle. It eases you in fixing problems you have with your bike. There are some tools that must be present in your bicycle tool box. Without these tools, you will find it difficult to fix the bike yourself.

The first bicycle tools you must have are tubes. If you have a bike, it is suggested that you have at least two extra tubes with you. Tubes or tire valves can be found in almost every bike store around you. There are two types of tire valve owned by almost every bike that are released recently. Those tubes are called "Presta" and "Shrader". The former is a valve tire that comes from France. It is also called French valve. This valve is characterized as small and thin. The latter, on the other hand, is bigger than the former and looks a lot like a car tire valve.

The second tool is a lever for the tires. This tool is an important bicycle tool you should have. Lever is shaped like a beer bottle opener and is used to detach the tires from the wheels. Since it can break the tires, you have to be really careful in using it. If you go to bike stores, you will find that lever is sold in a set.

The third tool is a bicycle pump. This is an essential bicycle tool that people must have. The bike pump that you should have is the one that is attachable to your bike. People call this kind of pump as a frame pump. The characteristic of this pump is its light weight. This pump can come in handy during a sudden flat tire during a cycling activity. Using a pump requires practice and an inexperienced person can experience difficulty in doing so.

Other bicycle tools that are needed are a bicycle patch repair kit, which serves as a back up when there is a sudden flat tire; a "Presta" valve adapter that is used to repair a flat tire that your friend may have, which weighs less than the frame pump; and carbon dioxide cartridge inflation that you can use when you do not have times to fix a flat tire yourselves. These tools are really necessary helpful to your bike. So, if you have not had them with you, you should buy them right away.

Furthermore, there are also some regular maintenance bicycle tools. First tool that should be owned is cleaning liquid. This liquid is usually sold with soft cloths. You can use the soft cloths to help you apply the cleaning liquid on your bike. However, you have to be careful not to scratch the surface of your bike. The second maintenance tool is a screwdriver. You need to have, at least, two kinds of screwdriver for your bike, which are flat head and cross-head or Phillips screwdrivers. Next tool that needs to be possessed is a pair of pliers. It is better to have both short and long pliers. The following tool is a wire cutter that you usually can get together with the pliers. A small hammer is complimentary if you need to hit a part of the bike to get it back to its place. Other maintenance tools are plastic tire levers, which are used to peel off the bike tires; a torch to calibrate the disc brakes; a set of wrenches; brush, to clean the various parts of your bike; and a toothbrush for bike parts that are hard to reach with brush.

Transform Your Ordinary Family Car into a Luxurious and Home ...

When you are traveling by using your private vehicle, one thing that you want very much is that you want to always feel comfortable and entertained when you board on the vehicle. For this reason, you will make your car as home-like as possible so that when you board on it, you can feel as if you never leave your home. Remember that a trip is sometimes so lengthy that you have to spend hours and even days in your vehicle before you reach your destination. If the interior of your vehicle is left as it is when you have just bought it, you will have to sit for hours in your vehicle and that is obviously a very boring and frustrating thing to do. Therefore, if you frequently use your vehicle for long traveling, you should consider modifying the interior of your vehicle so that it can be much more comfortable and appealing than it was before.

The best part of your car to modify is obviously its backseat. By modifying the centermost part of your car, you can transform your family car into an awesome recreational vehicle. There are many things that you can do to improve the overall condition of your car?s interior. If your car is a van or an SUV, you can combine the center and the back parts of your car to create a large and spacious passenger?s cabin. You can remove the center seats or turn them around so that they face backward. You can then put anything useful on the center of the cabin, such as a table.

In addition to modifying your car?s seats, you can also add additional entertaining components to your car. LED monitors, Blu-ray disk player, and sound system can be great additional components for your car. You can also add a small refrigerator or wine rack to make your car appear more luxurious.

Writer behind Suri's Burn Book blog publishes book

NEW YORK (AP) ? Suri Cruise would never wear denim, is on the Dukan Diet and considers Jay-Z and Beyonce's daughter, Blue Ivy, a rival.

Not the real Suri Cruise, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, but the one written about in a snarky blog ? and now book ? "Suri's Burn Book: Well-Dressed Commentary From Hollywood's Little Sweetheart" (Running Press).

Behind this fictional Suri, who is more Blair Waldorf of TV's "Gossip Girl" than 6-year-old Suri, is Allie Hagan.

About 18 months ago, Hagan thought she had an idea for a fun hobby: writing a humor blog from Suri's perspective.

"Every once in a while on my personal Twitter account I'd make little jokes about what Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was wearing or what Suri was up to, and a friend suggested I start a Tumblr account with that kind of humor about celebrity families," the 25-year-old Hagan, who lives in Washington, D.C., said in a recent interview.

"I knew that if I wrote it from my own perspective, it would come across as unnecessarily mean, possibly creepy. So I tried to think of a different angle."

Typical posts have a fictional Suri commenting on the outfits of other celebrity children or seeming utterly embarrassed by her parents.

One topic Hagan ditched the cynicism over was the recent split of Suri's parents. Her Web site had the highest traffic ever on the day Holmes announced she had filed for divorce from Cruise.

"I felt a lot of pressure because even though I think a lot of people saw it as a humorous kind of huge pop culture event ... I still see (Suri) as a girl whose parents were splitting up and I didn't want to make fun of that," she said.

The resulting post, written as Suri, led with, "Please respect my privacy during this difficult time. (Just mine though ? everyone else is fair game.)"

In the past year, Hagan juggled daily blog posts with more timeless musings for her book of the same name.

She recently quit her day job as an education policy consultant and is now a full-time writer. She says with so much attention placed on Hollywood kids, the possibilities about what to write seem endless.

Hagan hopes Britain's Kate Middleton and actress Diane Kruger will become mothers.

She said the fictional Suri longs to be royalty and "will be distraught" if the Duchess of Cambridge has children.

And Hagan is a fan of Kruger and her longtime boyfriend (and former Holmes' co-star and love interest) Joshua Jackson.

"I think they are so fashionable and there's also that ... Katie Holmes' old-loves connection. I just think it would be fun to write about and I think they're just so cool."

In 2-minute ad, Obama touts 'economic patriotism'

(AP) ? President Barack Obama is pitching a broad economic argument to voters ahead of next week's debate with Republican opponent Mitt Romney, buying TV time in seven battleground states to promote what he calls a "new economic patriotism."

In a two-minute ad, Obama looks into the camera as he promotes an economic plan he says will create 1 million manufacturing jobs, cut oil imports and hire thousands of new teachers.

The ad set to air in New Hampshire, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Nevada and Colorado comes as Obama and Republican Mitt Romney shadow each other while looking for votes in a closely contested race. On Thursday, the two candidates are scheduled to campaign in the same state for the third straight day, this time in Virginia, a critical battleground in the Nov. 6 election.

Romney is to appear in suburban Washington for a veterans event, while Obama speaks to a farm bureau in Virginia Beach.

The simultaneous visits follow an all-day duel Wednesday in Ohio, where Romney declared he can do more than Obama to improve the lives of average people. Obama scoffed that a challenger who calls half the nation "victims" was unlikely to be of much help.

Meanwhile, new Republican-leaning independent groups have entered the presidential advertising fray as polling suggests Romney's campaign may be losing ground against Obama in key states such as Ohio and Florida.

The commercials, aimed at voters who supported Obama in 2008 but are now undecided, join those from the campaigns and outside groups swamping a narrow and possibly shrinking map of competitive states in the fast-moving presidential contest. Americans for Job Security launched an $8.7 million ad buy in six battleground states, while the Ending Spending Action Fund, a new conservative group bankrolled by billionaire Joe Ricketts, was set to debut a $10 million, four-state ad campaign on Thursday.

Polls show Obama widening his lead in several key states amid backlash from a leaked video in which Romney disparages the 47 percent of Americans who don't pay federal income tax as government-dependent Obama supporters who see themselves as victims and won't take responsibility for their own lives.

Obama's campaign was reveling in the latest public polling but trying to crush any sense of overconfidence. "If we need to pass out horse blinders to all of our staff, we will do that," campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Wednesday.

Romney went after working-class voters at three stops in Ohio, while Obama rallied college crowds at Bowling Green and Kent State. Early voting in Ohio begins next week.

"If President Obama were to be re-elected, what you'd see is four more years like the last four years, and we can't afford another four more years like the last four years," Romney told a boisterous crowd in Toledo at the day's final stop.

Romney said the country had lost more than half a million manufacturing jobs in the past four years. "This is not the path we want for America," he said.

Romney's campaign has been reeling from his caught-on-video comments at a Florida fundraiser last May. New opinion polls, conducted after the video became public last week, show Obama opening up apparent leads over Romney in battleground states, including Ohio and Virginia.

Romney told ABC News that the race was in a statistical tie in some national polls.

"I'm very pleased with some polls, less so with other polls, but frankly at this early stage, polls go up, polls go down," he said.

Obama was not about to let the video comments fade away. He said Wednesday that "America is not about what can be done for us. It's about what can be done by us together, as one nation, as one people."

He added, "You can't make it happen if you write off half the nation before you take office."

Obama supporters are also working to keep Romney's "47 percent" comments alive. Democratic super PAC Priorities USA Action and a political group tied to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees released a radio ad in Ohio and Virginia airing the remarks. The ad, part of a $1.25 million radio buy, tells listeners Romney's "just not looking out for us."

Obama flubbed a line at Kent State while building to his argument for keeping jobs in the United States. He mistakenly said, "I want to see us export more jobs." He quickly corrected himself, saying he meant to say "export more products."

"Excuse me," Obama said. "I was a channeling my opponent there for a second."

Melatonin and exercise work against Alzheimer's in mice

Thursday, September 27, 2012

The combination of two neuroprotective therapies, voluntary physical exercise, and the daily intake of melatonin has been shown to have a synergistic effect against brain deterioration in rodents with three different mutations of Alzheimer's disease.

A study carried out by a group of researchers from the Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute (IIBB), in collaboration with the University of Granada and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, shows the combined effect of neuroprotective therapies against Alzheimer's in mice.

Daily voluntary exercise and daily intake of melatonin, both of which are known for the effects they have in regulating circadian rhythm, show a synergistic effect against brain deterioration in the 3xTg-AD mouse, which has three mutations of Alzheimer's disease.

"For years we have known that the combination of different anti-aging therapies such as physical exercise, a Mediterranean diet, and not smoking adds years to one's life," Coral Sanfeliu, from the IIBB, explains. "Now it seems that melatonin, the sleep hormone, also has important anti-aging effects".

The experts analysed the combined effect of sport and melatonin in 3xTg-AD mice which were experiencing an initial phase of Alzheimer's and presented learning difficulties and changes in behaviour such as anxiety and apathy.

The mice were divided into one control group and three other groups which would undergo different treatments: exercise ?unrestricted use of a running wheel?, melatonin ?a dose equivalent to 10 mg per kg of body weight?, and a combination of melatonin and voluntary physical exercise. In addition, a reference group of mice were included which presented no mutations of the disease.

"After six months, the state of the mice undergoing treatment was closer to that of the mice with no mutations than to their own initial pathological state. From this we can say that the disease has significantly regressed," Sanfeliu states.

The results, which were published in the journal Neurobiology of Aging, show a general improvement in behaviour, learning, and memory with the three treatments.

These procedures also protected the brain tissue from oxidative stress and provided good levels of protection from excesses of amyloid beta peptide and hyperphosphorylated TAU protein caused by the mutations. In the case of the mitochondria, the combined effect resulted in an increase in the analysed indicators of improved performance which were not observed independently.

Treatment not easily transferable to humans

"Transferring treatments which are effective in animals to human patients is not always consistent, given that in humans the disease develops over several years, so that when memory loss begins to surface, the brain is already very deteriorated," the IIBB expert points out.

However, several clinical studies have found signs of physical and mental benefits in sufferers of Alzheimer's resulting from both treatments. The authors maintain that, until an effective pharmacological treatment is found, adopting healthy living habits is essential for reducing the risk of the disease appearing, as well as reducing the severity of its effects.

The melatonin debate

The use of melatonin, a hormone synthesized from the neurotransmitter serotonin, has positive effects which can be used for treating humans. With the approval of melatonin as a medication in the European Union in 2007, clinical testing on this molecule has been increasing. It has advocates as well as detractors, and the scientific evidence has not yet been able to unite the differing views.

According to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, melatonin is probably effective in sleeping disorders in children with autism and mental retardation and in blind people; and possibly effective in case of jet-lag, sunburns and preoperative anxiety.

"However, other studies which use melatonin as medication show its high level of effectiveness," Dar?o Acu?a-Castroviejo explains. He has been studying melatonin for several years at the Health Sciences Technology Park of the University of Granada.

The expert points out that international consensus already exists, promoted by the British Association for Psychopharmacology ?also published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology in 2010?, which has melatonin as the first choice treatment for insomnia in patients above the age of 55. This consensus is now being transferred to cases of insomnia in children.

Its use in treating neurodegenerative diseases is acquiring increasing scientific support in lateral amyotrophic sclerosis, in Alzheimer's, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

"Even though many more studies and clinical tests are still required to assess the doses of melatonin which will be effective for a wide range of diseases, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of melatonin mean that its use is highly recommended for diseases which feature oxidative stress and inflammation," Acu?a-Castroviejo states.

This is the case for diseases such as epilepsy, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and even the aging process itself, where data is available pointing to the benefits of melatonin, though said data is not definitive.

Yemen leader says would talk to disarmed al-Qaida

(AP) ? Yemen's president said Tuesday he would talk to his country's branch of the al-Qaida militant network if it were to give up its weapons, abandon its extremist ideas and stop sheltering foreign fighters.

The televised statement by President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi appeared aimed at showing his readiness to use any means to reduce the political violence in his country, home to the most world's most active branch of the terror network. Al-Qaida however has shown little indication that it would want to pursue a dialogue, especially under Hadi's conditions.

The militants had taken advantage of Yemen's popular uprising last year to seize much of the country's south. This summer, backed by U.S. advisers and drones, Hadi's military launched an offensive to reclaim this territory, going after al-Qaida's strongholds and hideouts. The groups' No.2 was killed earlier this month in an airstrike.

The militants in turn have struck back, targeted security officials for assassinations and staging deadly bombings.

Hadi's remarks were in line with the image he tries to project, of a leader serious about bringing stability to his country either by force or by negotiation.

He said he was pressured by unidentified local "mediators" to accept the idea of dialogue with the militants. The group has often found shelter among tribal leaders.

"I say, despite the heavy blood that was shed and the homes which were destroyed, and people who lost their homes, a dialogue can be started on condition that the al-Qaida agrees publicly to hand over its weapons, declares its repentance from its extremist ideas that have nothing to do with Islam and gives up sheltering armed groups from outside Yemen," he said. "Then this would be opening the door for dialogue."

He added, however, that "mediators go and never come back," indicating skepticism that al-Qaida would ever take up the offer.

Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula has planned attacks against targets in both Yemen and the United States., including the failed attempt by an al-Qaida operative to detonate a bomb in his underwear aboard a flight bound for Detroit on Christmas Day, 2009.

In May, nearly 100 Yemeni soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a parade rehearsal. Al-Qaida said at the time it was targeting the defense minister, who was the target of at least six assassination attempts. At least 13 people were killed in the latest attempt against the minister two weeks ago in Sanaa.

Hadi's predecessor Ali Abdullah Saleh was long accused by critics of not fighting al-Qaida wholeheartedly. Saleh stepped down in February in a power transfer deal backed by the U.S., but Hadi and his supporters complain the former leader undermines security using relatives and loyalists still in key positions.

On Tuesday, Hadi vowed to continue to free the country from "burden of the past," an apparent reference to his predecessor's alleged meddling. "All I promise is that I will not be silent or objective before whatever curtails the path to change," he said.

The impoverished Arabian Peninsula nation's economy has been hard hit by the upheaval.

On Tuesday, an explosion struck a gas pipeline in southern Yemen, temporarily halting the flow of gas although exports were not affected, a government official said. The pipeline has repeatedly been targeted by groups suspected to be affiliated with al-Qaida.

An oil ministry official said repair work has begun in the Liquefied Natural Gas Co. pipeline. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

The bombing in Shabwa province comes on the heels of a Monday attack against an oil pipeline nearby.

A statement by the gas company said nobody was hurt in Tuesday's explosion. Yemen LNG Co. was created in 1995 ? the country's first natural gas liquefaction consortium. Its major shareholders include French oil company Total SA and Dallas-based Hunt Oil Co. It also is backed with Asian, U.S. and Yemeni government funding.

Europe unrest reverberates on Wall Street

A dip in home sales and unrest in Europe sent stocks sliding Wednesday,?extending the longest losing streak for the S&P 500 since mid-July.?European stocks had their worst day in months as unrest threatened to boil over in Greece.

A mixed report about the housing market and unrest in Europe on Wednesday extended the longest losing streak for the Standard & Poor's 500 index since mid-July. Other risky assets, like European?stocks?and oil, fell more sharply.

The median price of new homes sold in August rose by a record amount, while sales of new homes dipped slightly. Sales in August were up 27.7 percent from a year earlier, but remain at about half the pace economists consider healthy.

Stronger data on the U.S. housing market have insulated?stocks?in recent weeks from a slackening global economy.?Stocks' other main source of support has been the Federal Reserve's program to boost the economy by pumping money in. That idea lost some luster Tuesday after a key Fed official said he doubted it will do much good.

"There was some optimism coming into the market, and that's usually when you're most vulnerable to sell-offs when there are negative headlines" like the Fed official's comments, unrest in Europe and weaker data about the U.S. economy, said Todd Salamone, director of research at Schaeffer's Investment Research.

Indexes had risen to levels they hadn't beat for months or years, Salamone said, creating "an almost perfect storm in terms of the vulnerability to short-term impacts."

The dip in home sales hurt homebuilder?stocks. PulteGroup Inc. fell 76 cents, or 4.7 percent, to $15.30; KB Home 51 cents, or 3.5 percent, to $13.90 and Beazer Homes USA Inc. 14 cents, or 3.9 percent, to $3.50.

European?stocks?had their worst day in months as unrest threatened to boil over in Greece, where deep budget cuts have eroded people's living standards, and Spain, where citizens are resisting a likely bailout from international lenders. Earlier, Asian?stocks?closed lower.

The euro fell sharply against the dollar, and the price of oil closed below $90 per barrel for the first time since early August.

Rising demand for lower-risk investments fed strong bids for U.S. Treasury debt. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.62 percent from 1.67 percent late Tuesday. A bond's yield falls as its price increases.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 44.04 points, or 0.3 percent, to 13,413.51. The S&P 500 index fell 8.27, or 0.6 percent, to 1,433.32. The only category that rose was utilities, relatively safe?stocks?that tend to hold their value when the economy is weak.

(AP) ? A gunshot rang out at an Oklahoma junior high school before classes began Wednesday, terrifying teenagers who feared a gunman was on the loose.

Soon, though, students learned no one else was in danger. One of their eighth-grade classmates had taken his own life, shooting himself in the head with a handgun in the hall, authorities said.

"Throughout the entire thing, we all thought someone shot someone else," said student Paiton Gardner, 14. "We didn't know it was a suicide. We were freaking out."

Some students bolted outside Stillwater Junior High. Staffers quickly locked down the building and evacuated the rest of the school's 700 eighth- and ninth-graders, along with students from an adjacent elementary school, police Capt. Randy Dickerson said.

Dickerson said the 13-year-old didn't leave a note, and authorities said they don't know why he killed himself. Superintendent Ann Caine said there weren't any reports that the teen had been bullied.

"There is no indication that that's what occurred," Caine said. She said the teen was a good student who got along with other kids.

Police wouldn't say where the weapon came from or how the eighth-grader got it into the school. Caine said there aren't any metal detectors but expects there will be discussions about the policy.

Gardner said she realized something was wrong early Wednesday when students began to run past her.

"People looked terrified," said Gardner, a ninth-grader. "The football coach was like, 'Get out, get out! Someone's been shot.'"

She and other students sprinted down the hallway, passing blood on the wall and floor as she ran to a nearby playground.

Another ninth-grader, Jake Green, said he heard the single shot ring out after he and dozens of other students gathered to pray before school.

"We heard this loud boom and everyone just got quiet," Green said. "No one said a word."

A teacher told the students to get out of the building, Green said.

"Everyone was really scared. We didn't know if the kid shot himself or if there was a shooter outside the school who shot in," Green said. "Everyone didn't know what was going on, so they were screaming and running as fast as they could to get to the playground."

Students were wearing superhero costumes Wednesday as part of an effort to raise cancer awareness, Caine said. She said she didn't know what the student who shot himself was wearing.

Green said students who were already in their classrooms were locked in the building for about an hour.

"It was really scary," Green said. "Everyone's kind of traumatized and doesn't know how to act or respond."

Kenny Monday told The Associated Press that his son, Kennedy, heard the gunshot but did not witness the shooting.

"It's so sad that the kid lost his life, but we're just glad he didn't shoot anyone else," Monday said.

Stillwater Junior High sent a statement to parents saying there had been a "single shooting incident" at the school and that staff and students had been moved to a safe location. Parents were told to pick up their children at a nearby shopping center. Stillwater is located about 70 miles west of Tulsa.

Caine said counselors would be available for students.

"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of a tragic incident at our (school) this morning," Caine said in a letter to parents. "At 7:50 a.m. one of our students died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. All other students and staff are safe."

He told reporters that the family had been notified of the student's death.

"This is a family who is grieving right now," Caine said.

Gonzalez gives Dodgers a boost

CINCINNATI (AP) - The Dodgers know that their latest win has to be the start of something spectacular.

Adrian Gonzalez hit a pair of solo home runs off Homer Bailey on Sunday night, powering Los Angeles to a 5-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds that let the Dodgers keep pace in the wild card race.

They remained three games behind St. Louis and a half-game behind Milwaukee for the final NL playoff spot. All three teams won on Sunday.

The Dodgers have dropped 11 of their last 17 games. They are off Monday before starting a three-game series in San Diego. The Dodgers finish the season with six games at home - three against Colorado, three against NL West-champion San Francisco.

That is nine games to make up a lot of ground.

"Just win, man, that's all that matters," Gonzalez said. "We can't go out there and win a series anymore. We've got to go out there and try to sweep. We win nine games, that gives us a legitimate shot at this."

While the Dodgers felt the pressure of trying to stay in contention, the Reds rested several regulars a day after clinching their second NL Central title in three years. Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker briefly visited the players in the clubhouse after his release from a Chicago hospital, where he was treated the last four days for an irregular heartbeat.

"I thought he looked great," left fielder Ryan Ludwick said. "He was in good spirits. It was great to see his smile, and he got a lot of hugs from us. He was cool, calm and collected. We all want him here, but we know it's going to take some time."

The 63-year-old Baker became ill while the team was in Chicago last week. The Reds won the title without him on Saturday night, raising a toast to him in the clubhouse after their 6-0 victory.

Cincinnati is off on Monday and will open a three-game series against Milwaukee on Tuesday, giving Baker a day to rest. The Reds are a half-game behind Washington for the best record in the NL and the top seed in the playoffs.

Bailey (12-10) allowed five hits in 6 2-3 innings, including the two homers by Gonzalez, who has five in his career off the right-hander. His second homer started a four-run seventh inning that also featured Mark Ellis' RBI double.

"I'll tell you one thing: If you want to get Adrian Gonzalez hot, have him hit against me," Bailey said. "I throw balls out of the (strike) zone, and he still hits them out."

Shawn Tolleson (3-1) got the victory with one perfect inning in relief. Ronald Belisario gave up a two-run homer by Denis Phipps - his first in the majors - in the eighth inning. Brandon League pitched the ninth for his fifth save in five chances with LA.

After the loss on Saturday night, the Dodgers changed their pitching plans for the final game of the series, letting their 2011 Cy Young winner see what he could do. Clayton Kershaw hadn't pitched since Sept. 11 because of a sore hip and probably wouldn't have made another start if LA was out of contention. He managed five ragged innings.

"He was just rusty more than anything else," manager Don Mattingly said. "He's Clayton. He's going to keep fighting and battling. He wanted to stay in the game even then."

The left-hander faced a Reds lineup missing four regulars who got the day off after they clinched. Ludwick, right fielder Jay Bruce, third baseman Scott Rolen and shortstop Zack Cozart sat out.

Kershaw hit Chris Heisey to open the Reds' first inning and needed 92 pitches to get through five innings, leaving with the score tied at 1. He fanned Joey Votto with the bases loaded in the fourth to keep it tied at 1.

He was disappointed when Mattingly pinch hit for him leading off the sixth.

"Obviously, I was not pitching that great, but you never want to pitch five innings and call it a day," Kershaw said. "Physically I felt fine. I wasn't throwing strikes, but it wasn't because of the hip."

NOTES: Mattingly plans to start RHP Josh Beckett as planned on Tuesday, then have RHP Aaron Harang go on Wednesday. ... Gonzalez is 8 for 15 with five career homers off Bailey. It was his 14th career multihomer game and his first of the season. ... A.J. Ellis snapped an 0-for-30 slump. ... SS Hanley Ramirez fouled a ball off his left shin in the seventh inning, singled and left for a pinch runner, limping as he headed for the dugout. ... Votto missed 48 games because of two operations for torn cartilage in his left knee. He is batting .314 without a homer in 17 games since his return. ... C Ryan Hanigan left with a bruised right shoulder, hit by a pitch that bounced. Precautionary X-rays were negative.

They have signed a joint working agreement to develop R+D projects for environmental prevention and recovery at sea and on the coast

This press release is available in Spanish.

AZTI-Tecnalia, the Basque technological centre specialising in marine and food research, has signed a joint working agreement with the China Academy of Environmental Sciences to develop R+D projects for environmental prevention and recovery at sea and on the coast. The agreement is a further example of AZTI-Tecnalia as an international technological centre of reference.

On the occasion of the visit to the AZTI-Tecnalia installations by the President of the China Academy of Environmental Sciences, accompanied by representatives of various research centres and universities dependant on this institution, a joint working agreement was signed by the two bodies. The agreement is one more step in the commitment by the Chinese Government to find solutions to the environmental implications of the rapid industrial development their country is undergoing. In order to reduce the effects that this growth is having, they have drawn up a framework programme for environmental protection and, being at its implementation stage, they have sought the collaboration and experience of international organisations of reference. This agreement can open opportunities for co-operation in the future for other Basque institutions and businesses interested in the environmental economy in China.

AZTI-Tecnalia will provide the China Academy of Environmental Sciences, and the various research centres that the institution has along the coast of the Asian country, with its technology, tools, methods of study and know-how in coastal and marine environment matters, the goal being to achieve sustainable development for the Asian country. AZTI-Tecnalia will collaborate with managers of the Chinese Government in order to take the most appropriate decisions in each case and achieve better protection for its coasts and seas. The collaboration is fundamentally focused on two spheres: research applied to sustainable coastal development and the observation, analysis and prediction of the behaviour of the sea. Training and personnel interchange is also planned, with various annual seminars to be held in China.

Amongst the activities that AZTI-Tecnalia and the Academy of Environmental Sciences of China propose undertaking is the incorporation of real-time monitoring systems for marine processes. The aim of this is to gather data in an ongoing manner in order to be able to assess current behaviour and predict the future behaviour of the sea and the estuaries, in such a way that the impact of human action on the sea and the coast can be managed and evaluated in the most appropriate way. AZTI-Tecnalia already has experience in monitoring the sea thus, thanks to the Kostasystem project, implemented locally at various beaches in the Basque Country and also in the Canary Islands.

This environmental monitoring of the sea and the estuaries will also be undertaken with sampling stations for measuring water quality and with the measurement of the currents, tides and waves. Another planned action is the development of methods for the evaluation of environmental impact, especially with reference to human activities, such as public works along the coast and marine energy infrastructure.

Use of Azti's Marine Biotic Index in China

The marine authorities in China are currently studying the possibility of officially employing a tool created by AZTI-Tecnalia for evaluating the ecological state of the quality of the sea and the estuaries. This is AMBI (the Azti Marine Biotic Index), software that contains data on more than 6,000 species throughout the planet, and which has had great repercussion and use worldwide.
