Facebook announces Twitter-inspired embed post feature

Facebook continues to take inspiration from Twitter in its efforts to extend the reach of its content on the web. After introducing Verified Profiles for celebs and Hashtags for trending topics, Facebook has now introduced an embed feature for its posts.

The feature works similar to how you embed tweets on your blogs and websites. The embed feature on Facebook will include text, photos, videos, hashtags, like, comment and also like button for that page. In simple words, when a celebrity or an eminent personality ?Publicly? posts on Facebook, you will be able to embed that post on any website.

Unlike embedded tweets, people will be able to like, comment and share embedded Facebook posts directly from websites where the post is embedded. Likes, shares and comments will be synced at all times between the original post and wherever it has been embedded.

To embed a post, click on the arrow button on the right and below Hide, Report Spam and Follow Post, there will be a new option called Embed Post. When you click on it, a pop-up box will include the HTML code required to embed that post. Facebook is slowly rolling out this feature and as of now only Bleacher Report, CNN, Huffington Post, Mashable and People can embed Facebook posts on their websites.

With verified profiles, hashtags and now embedded posts; Facebook is really making an effort to see that its contents are spread far and wide on the Internet. With Twitter widely considered as a source of information for breaking news stories, you can see why Facebook has been introducing such features on its website. But whether it will succeed in putting a dent in Twitter?s dominance is something we will have to wait and see.
